POOR GIRL: Muslim Court Sentences 19-Year-Old Rape Victim To Death, Claims She Knew Better
A teenaged Pakistani rape victim has fled from her village after a tribal court sentenced her to death.
The 19-year-old woman was rebuffed by village officials when she reported that her cousin had raped her at gunpoint. The local panchayat, a tribal council governing remote parts of Pakistan, ruled that the woman had intentionally seduced her attacker.
Muslim-majority countries are known for trampling on women’s right. Islam treats women like valuable pieces of property. Men are presumed innocent of sexual crimes while women are demonized.
The panchayat not only absolved the young victim’s attacker of his crime, they salted her wounds by declaring that she was the guilty one. The council of men, which included the rapist’s father, ruled that the victim was an adulteress.
“I could not raise an alarm as Ahmed was holding a gun. But the panchayat refused to accept my statement and declared that I willfully slept with him,” the young woman told the police.
Islam has a long, tortured history of abusing women. Thousands of innocent women have been slaughtered in so-called “honor killings.” Less than a year ago a shocking headline ricocheted across international media. An 18-year-old Pakistani woman was murdered by her own family. They became enraged after learning that the young woman had married without consent.
“When she told her parents about us, they beat her so severely she was bleeding from her mouth and nose,” the woman’s widow told the BBC.
